The Blue Jackets look to complete the home and home sweep with Montreal after claiming the first leg by a 5-2 final at home last night.
The Blue Jackets have had a tough go this season and things don’t appear to be get any better for them moving forward with this season but a win at home last night against a struggling Canadiens side and a potential to grab a sweep tonight could be a minor victory for a franchise likely to land a top draft pick. Columbus sits in last place in the Metro division, the Eastern Conference, and the entire NHL and while they have some time to get out of this funk and perhaps finish the second half of the season with some forward momentum but with their best offensive piece already off the roster and not much to come at the trade deadline they are right in line to land Auston Matthews who would immediately become the face of the franchise.
The Canadiens meanwhile are an absolute mess right now but luckily for them they have a get out of jail free card this season as the injury to Carey Price has been the scapegoat and rightfully so as he is the reigning MVP for a reason. However, the fall from grace is catastrophic for this team as it is clear they are a mediocre group with a fantastic goalie and while that can win some teams a championship it just doesn’t seem like the Montreal way and if their futility continues with Price back in the crease we can expect management to make some serious moves that could involve trading for the likes of Eric Staal or Steven Stamkos. As for tonight though the Habs desperately need to get back in the win column and a sweep at the hands of the last place Blue Jackets would bring their season to a new low. I think they avoid it.
