The Red Wings look to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race as they head into Montreal to take on the Canadiens.
The Detroit Red Wings scored a pivotal victory at home against the Buffalo Sabres last night but they certainly didn’t make it easy on themselves as the Sabres netted two late goals and almost forced overtime but in the end the Wings got the victory they desperately needed. Detroit plays in a back to back here as they head into Montreal to face off with the Canadiens, who will not be participating in this year’s playoffs, but could thrive in the spoiler role as their season draws near a close. The Wings will likely go with Petr Mrazek in this spot who has been the better option in the Detroit crease this season, as he will likely face off against Mike Condon.
The Canadiens have had a very disappointing year and to think they would miss the Eastern Conference playoffs this season after the start they had would be very far fetched but they have been very weak for most of the season and will need to go back to the drawing board. Montreal has struggled to score goals at a consistent rate and without Carey Price in the crease to bail them out on a nightly basis it has left Montreal on a very tough position and one they will need to figure out in the coming months. This is actually a tough one to sort out as the Wings need to keep winning to stay in the wild card race but Montreal has played well at home the season and will look to spoil the party for the ted and white. In the end, the total is the better option and with the Wings playing last night and getting their better goaltender back in I can’t see how this one goes over the total.
