The Panthers continue their road trip in Montreal tonight less than 24 hours after dropping a tough 3-2 decision against the Islanders in Brooklyn.
The Florida Panthers took one on the chin against the Islanders last night dropping a tough 3-2 decision in a game that would have put them back in the Atlantic division lead but they can’t fret for too long as they have another match up tonight against the Canadiens. Florida has been one of the bigger surprises this season as they sit 16 games above the .500 mark and have 85 points in 69 games and with 13 remaining on their schedule they are on a very good spot to land the top seed in the division and generate home ice at least for the first round. The Cats are likely to turn to Al Montoya in this one after Roberto Luongo got the call last night and he will face off against Mike Condon who is expected to get the call in the first leg of a back to back for the Habitants.
The Canadiens meanwhile head into Tuesday night’s game sitting in sixth place in the Atlantic and are nine points out of a playoff spot which doesn’t bode well for a team that can’t seem to keep the puck out of their net and has trouble scoring. Montreal has been a nightmare to watch since November and it goes to show just how mediocre this group was last year with the world’s best goaltender bailing them out and while I think they are a better team than their record indicates this season it does give them a sense of reality. Montreal is still an impressive 19-12-3 at home this season indicating just how bad they have been on the road but unfortunately in this circumstance I don’t think it matters as they face a stifling Panthers defense who should have no issues getting the win.
