The Line: Montreal Canadiens -110 / Toronto Maple Leafs -110 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Toronto Maple Leafs take the ice at the Montreal Canadiens in a Saturday NHL matchup.
The Toronto Maple Leafs hope to continue their strong start with a visit to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Toronto had opened the season in top form with three consecutive wins before coming back down to earth in a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.
The normally defensive minded Devils looked unstoppable on the attack with Pavel Zacha and Miles Wood both scoring two times. New Jersey also received goals from Blake Coleman and Brian Gibbons scored with two in the penalty box while Adam Henrique and Will Butcher posted a pair of helpers each.
The Maple Leafs saw Dominic Moore, Auston Matthews and James van Riemsdyk score but that wasn’t enough with Frederik Andersen allowing all six goals on 31 shots to fall to 3-1. Corey Schneider stood tall in the nets for New Jersey with a mammoth 47 saves.
The Montreal Canadiens host the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday looking for a change in momentum. After opening the season with a win, Montreal has dropped three in a row after a 3-1 loss to the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. The Canadiens have struggled to find their offense and did so once again with Tomas Piekanec scoring 1:15 in to the game but never scoring again.
Montreal didn’t lack in shots with 42, but Chicago goalie Corey Crawford was up to the task with a monster 41 stops to pick up the win. The Blackhawks offense came off the sticks of Brandon Saad, Artem Anisimov and rookie Alex DeBrincat which was his first career NHL tally. Carey Price gave up all three goals on 25 shots.
Over is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 overall and over is 5-0 in Maple Leafs last 5 Saturday games and Maple Leafs are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record. Canadiens are 0-5 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 5-0 in Canadiens last 5 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and Canadiens are 1-6 in their last 7 overall. Maple Leafs are 0-8 in the last 8 meetings in Montreal and under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Montreal and under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings.
Montreal and the under have been the best choices in this matchup so my lean is the Habs as I wait for goalie confirmation…
