NHL hockey comes to the Bridgestone Arena when the Nashville Predators host the Calgary Flames.
The Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames are battling for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference so winning a head to head match up holds more significance. The Canucks came up huge Saturday with a 2-1. Overtime victory versus the Flames and in doing so, moved to within four points of Calgary for the second Wild Card. Chris Taney scored just 34 seconds in to the extra session to win it for Vancouver with Alex Edler scoring in regulation to make a winner of Ryan Miller. The Flames lone goal came off the stick of Mark Giordano with less then six seconds left with Brian Elliott absorbing the loss with a 17 save performance.
The Nashville Predators and the Columbus Blue Jackets went toe to toe for 60 minutes of back and forth hockey before the clock ran out on the CBJ in a 4-3 defeat at home on Sunday night. The Predators remained in contention for the second Wild Card in the Western Conference with goals coming from Mattias Ekholm, Kevin Fiala, Ryan Ellis and Calle Jarnkrok while Jusse Saros made the most of a rare start to pick up his 6th victory behind a 35 save effort. The Blue Jackets offense came off the sticks of Brandon Saad, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Zach Werenski who also posted two helpers but Sergei Bobrovsky absorbed the loss as he finished with 28 stops.
The under is 4-0 in Flames last 4 overall and the Flames are 6-1 in their last 7 games playing on 2 days rest while the over is 11-2-1 in Flames last 14 games playing on 2 days rest. The Predators are 0-5 in their last 5 games following a win and the over is 6-0 in Predators last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Predators are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Pacific. The road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the Flames are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings and the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.
The Calgary Flames and the over have generally fared well and I lean over until goalies are confirmed…
