The Carolina Hurricanes and the Nashville Predators meet in NHL action from the Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday night.

The Carolina Hurricanes will look to rebound from a 4-3 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in their last outing. Trevor van Riemsdyk opened the scoring just :12 into the game before Edmonton tied the game up at one just before the six and a half minute mark of the opening period. Sebastian Aho gave Carolina the lead just over five minutes into the 2nd before Edmonton tied the game and took the lead in a span of :28 later in the middle frame. Aho tied the game at three with just over five minutes to go in regulation, sending us to overtime which needed almost four minutes to produce a winner but Edmonton would find the back of the net, sending the ‘Canes back with just a single point to show for their efforts. James Reimer took the OT loss, falling to 14-6-2 on the year after allowing 4 goals on 24 shots faced in the losing effort.

The Nashville Predators will look to build on their current three-game winning streak after sweeping the home-and-home with St. Louis, taking Sunday’s matchup by a final score of 2-1. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes before Craig Smith gave the Preds the lead just under eight minutes into the 2nd. St. Louis tied the game just 3:03 later, so it was off to the 3rd deadlocked at one goal apiece. Both sides had their chances, with St. Louis outshooting the Predators in all three periods, including 14-12 in the 3rd, but Kyle Turris would score for Nashville with just over two minutes to play, giving the Predators a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way. Pekka Rinne got the win to improve to 18-13-3 on the year after stopping 38 of 39 shots faced in the winning effort.

Carolina is 2-6 in their last 8 road games and 16-5 in their last 21 games against the Central division while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall. Nashville is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall and 7-2 in their last 9 games against the Metropolitan division while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 home games. Carolina is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

I’m tempted by Carolina and plus money, but the reality is that the Hurricanes aren’t the same team at home that they are on the road, and Nashville as up and down as they’ve been, are starting to pick up steam at the right time and did just beat the defending Stanley Cup Champions in a back-to-back scenario. I just think this may be a spot to strike while the iron is hot with Nashville, so I’ll lay the juice with the Predators at home in this one.
