The Avalanche look to put a dent in Nashville's ridiculous home ice record when the two teams meet up at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday.
The Colorado Avalanche look to spoil the party in the Music City on Tuesday night in their first action after the all-star break and inch closer to a wild card spot with a victory. The Avs sit just three points back of the Flames for that final playoff spot in the Western Conference but they know they have their work cut out for them if they're going to get back to the playoffs and that journey starts tonight against a tough Predators team who despite being without Pekka Rinne for the foreseeable future remain a very good team to play against. The Avs stumbled this season after their magical run to the Central division title last season and while it has been a tough turnaround for them it has been great for us as we get great value on an underachieving team who still has a chance at making the playoffs. Semyon Varlamov will get the nod in goal and he will go up against Carter Hutton who has struggled in relief of Rinne and will be looking for just his second win of the season.
The Predators continue life without Pekka Rinne as the Vezina and Hart Trophy favourite sits on the shelf with an injury for the next few weeks and their first matchup after the all-star break comes at home against the Avs. Nashville has had a very impressive season and sit in second place in the Western Conference but with their division lead having four teams within five points the Preds must be a little uneased as the Central is loaded with playoff caliber teams and Nashville could slip into the wild card mix if they're not careful which would force them into a road situation where they haven't been nearly as effective this season. This will be an interesting game as we get a desperate Avalanche side looking to make a playoff push against a Preds team on their heels but are playing at home and I don't know what to think about Carter Hutton. With all teams getting some time off I am going to take the huge value with the Avs here and hammer them as a road dog as I think they are more than capable of getting the win and it is certainly worth the risk.
