The Phoenix Coyotes head into Nashville on Monday night looking to get back in the win column while the home town Predators look for their sixth win in Nashville this season.
The Coyotes head into Nashville having earned points in 8 of their last 10 contests but they’ll look to improve their mediocre road record which is separating them from first place in the Pacific division. Phoenix is a very tough team to play against as they are physical, have a ton of role players, and can score making them a dangerous opponent who should be right in the mix come playoff time. Mike Smith has been great between the pipes and he will likely get the call once again as the Coyotes look to grab their 15th victory of the season at the expense of the Predators. Smith will go up against Marek Mazanec who continues to fill in while Pekka Rinne recovers from injury.
The Predators are coming off a loss of their own but with a victory they can begin to distance themselves from the rest of the basement dwellers in the Central division. Nashville sits in a tie with the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars for the bottom spot in the division with 24 points sitting a clear 10 back of the third and fourth place Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild respectively. The Preds will look for another home ice win where they have played decently well this season and could catch the Coyotes in a tough spot as they haven’t played nearly as well on the road as they have at home. However, I think Phoenix matches up quite well with the Preds in this spot as I think they’re a deeper team with a better goalie and ultimately that will be the difference here as the Coyotes grab the two points.
