The Devils and Flames meet up in New Jersey on Tuesday night as both sides look to improve their standing and a make a push for the playoffs.
The Calgary Flames head into New Jersey on Tuesday night looking to shake off a loss in overtime in their last outing and claw their way back up the Pacific division standings as they currently sit in sixth place and are not in a playoff position. The Flames are coming off a very successful season in which they reached the Pacific division final and ousted the Vancouver Canucks in the first round but things have been a bit bumpier this time around as they haven’t been able to get consistent play across the board and are sitting at .500 on the year. Jonas Hiller is expected to get the start here as he will go up against Corey Schneider.
The Devils meanwhile have been a bit of a pleasant surprise this year as they have silenced the critics and are in the race for a wild card spot in the Metro division and are actually only four points back of the Rangers for the third automatic spot in the division. New Jersey has some issues scoring goals but they face a Flames team who has been awful in their own end this season and are fourth to worst in the NHL in goals allowed, a far cry from their numbers a season ago, and even the low scoring Devils should have success here against Calgary. The difference in this game will be goaltending and with the Devils having the better back end and the better goaltender I think New Jersey gets the win on home ice.
