After four straight losses the Carolina Hurricanes finally got out of their own way on Sunday afternoon. Facing the Ottawa Senators, another team like themselves that hasn't met expectations this season, the Hurricanes righted their ship for at least one game. Jason Spezza scored just over a minute into the game for the Senators but that would be the only blemish against Cam Ward and the Hurricanes in this one. The Hurricanes got three goals in a nine minute span in the second period from Patrick Dwyer, Tuomo Ruutu, and Elias Lindholm and it's all that Carolina would need in this one. Eric Staal finished things with an empty net goal in the third period but this one was all about Ward outdueling his counterpart. It has been a rough start to the season for Ward this year with his injury and inconsistent play but this was the type of performance you expect to see out of him when he's on his game. Ward made 35 saves in this one and if not for his efforts the results could have been much different in ths one. Now the Hurricanes will head to New Jersey to take on the Devils at the Prudential Center. The Devils have gotten things together themselves in the month of November but it's still alarming just how little offense New Jersey is creating. New Jersey has just four goals in the last three games and the bigger issue is that they aren't generating many shots. The Devils now rank 30th, dead last in the NHL in shot attempts per game .The difference between New Jersey and a team like the Buffalo Sabres who rank 29th, is that New Jersey does a much better job defensively. Martin Brodeur has been fantastic for stretches and Cory Schneider with him is an excellent tandem. None of that will matter however if the Devils don't start controlling play more than they have to this point. Not every game can be a one goal, low scoring game night after that. Those types of season are draining on a club that feels like it can't make a mistake at any point during the year. New Jersey has plenty of time to make some adjustments but the question is whether or not they have the personnel to make those changes effective. This is a game on Wednesday that I would stay away from because the Hurricanes haven't proven much to this point but the Devils shouldn't be laying that much on the money line with their offense.

Pick:
Carolina +169

On July 1, 2008 I typed into Google "How Do I start A Blog" and I started my first website called "Miami Mitch's Place" where i shared my college football Picks and predictions as well as opinion. By the Fall I had heard from many that the title made it sound like the site was about Miami so I changed it to "College Football Place" (cfbplace.com), After the 2008 college football season I change focus and launched CBBplace.com, it wasn't long after that when I realized I just wanted one place to add all sports, and that's when Sports Chat Place was born.

This site is a big Thank You to all of our readers, visitors, and community where we have been given a platform to talk to the masses about sports and hopefully help put you on some winners. If you need to reach me just shoot an email to [email protected]
