The Carolina Hurricanes visit the New Jersey Devils for Sunday NHL action.

The surging Carolina Hurricanes have won five of six after downing the NY Rangers 3-0 on Friday. The Rangers played well defensively but Henrik Lundqvist still absorbed the loss with a goal allowed on 31 shots.

Warren Foegele scored the winner for Carolina at 6:43 of the third with Andrei Svechnikov and Brock McGinn adding empty netters. Brett Pesce posted a pair of assists for the Hurricanes and Petr Mrazek picked up the win with 27 stops.

The New Jersey Devils are staring at a three game losing streak following a 4-2 loss to visiting Minnesota on Saturday. Brett Seney and Jesper Bratt lit the lamp for New Jersey. Corey Schneider absorbed the loss for the Devils with  four goals given up on 33 shots to fall to 0-6-2.

The balanced Minnesota offense saw scoring from Marcus Foligno, Zach Parise, Joel Eriksson and Luke Kunin. Kunin and Foligno also posted assists for the Wild and Devan Dubnyk picked up the win with 16 stops.

Hurricanes are 6-2 in their last 8 games as a favorite and Hurricanes are 9-3 in their last 12 vs. Eastern Conference and Hurricanes are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. a team with a losing record. 

Devils are 2-6 in their last 8 overall and Devils are 6-20 in their last 26 Sunday games and Devils are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan. 

Hurricanes are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in New Jersey and Hurricanes are 3-7 in the last 10 meetings and under is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings in New Jersey.

Carolina won’t stay hot forever but I hope they do for at least another day…
