The Detroit Red Wings look to snap out of their losing ways as they take on the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.
The Wings got off to a nice start this season but have since taken a back seat as they have lost seven of their last 10 games and have slipped under the .500 mark and face a tough test on Friday night against a very tough New Jersey side. The Wings have been the model of consistency in the NHL over the last quarter century but speculation has them missing the playoffs this season for the first time in 25 years and with the roster they have it wouldn’t surprise me to see that cone to fruition as they play in a tough division with plenty of Cup contender ahead of them. Jimmy Howard is expected to get the call here as he will face off against Corey Schneider.
The Devils meanwhile have gotten off to a nice start as they have one of the bets goalies in the NHL and a stingy defense that has equalled the task of their net minder and if they can get their offense to follow suit this could be a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. The Devils made a move when they traded for Taylor Hall in the offseason and while he has had varying degrees of success through the first stretch of games this season I think he is due to break out and that could be the turning point of their season.
The Wings are 1-4 in their last five overall and 4-10 in their last 14 road games while the Devils are 4-0 in their last four home games and 5-0 in their last five against the Eastern Conference. Detroit is due to rebound but I don’t see it here against the Devils who hold the edge in almost every facet and at home is just the kicker.
