The Oilers look to snap their ugly two game slide and get back in the win column with a road date in New Jersey on Tuesday night.
The Edmonton Oilers looked like a team rejuvenated after getting superstar rookie Connor McDavid back in the lineup and after back to back victories including a 7-2 thrashing of the Senators, Edmonton has reverted back to form in convincing fashion. They were trounced by a Montreal side who hasn’t been able to beat anybody of late and followed that up with an 8-1 loss against the Islanders and now have to face off against an underrated New Jersey team that is competing for a playoff spot and is coming off a loss last night against the Rangers. Cam Talbot will likely get the call in the Edmonton crease and he will go up against Cory Schneider who will be the Devils’ workhorse for the rest of the season.
The Devils dropped a 2-1 decision at MSG last night in a game where they probably deserved a better fate, but nonetheless they remain a single point back of the Islanders for third in the Metro and have played three more games than them. New Jersey is a strong defensive group and they will need to be in check in this one as the Oilers if anything can generate some offense in the counter attack and with New Jersey playing last night we can anticipate that is what Edmonton will look to do here. This game should be a close one and with Edmonton’s defense taking the last two games off and the Devils in a back to back this one looks like an easy under.
