The Nashville Predators head into the swamp on Sunday looking to upend the New Jersey Devils who have started to play better hockey and inch towards the .500 mark.
The Nashville Predators were expected to take a big step back this season as they continue their transition stage back to respectability but they have actually played quite well and all this with arguably their most important player in Pekka Rinne out of the lineup. Nashville enters this one two games above .500 and they owe a lot of that to backup Carter Hutton who has been great in RInne’s absence but he will match up against a future Hall of Famer and one of the best goalies of all time in Martin Brodeur tonight. Nashville has a great blue line and they will need to be on point tonight to keep the Devils offense at bay.
The Devils head into competition on Sunday sporting a lackluster record of 4-7-5 but despite their mark they are playing much better and have a real shot of making a statement tonight against the Predators. The battle for playing time between Marty Brodeur and Corey Schneider will be interesting to monitor from here on out as the former is the best of all time while the latter is the future of the team. Brodeur gets the call here as Schneider played against Toronto on Friday night in what was a very impressive outing. While Carter Hutton has been solid and the Preds have the better shot at the making the playoffs I think the Devils will counter defensively as well and this will be a tight contest. I like the total here as the under should be a solid play between two defensive oriented teams.
