New Jersey -157 / NY Rangers +130 / over-under: 5.5
The New Jersey Devils host the New York Rangers in a Thursday NHL tilt.
The New Jersey Devils opened the second half of the season with a 6-3 road win against Pittsburgh on Monday. Derick Brassard, Matt Cullen and Bryan Rust scored for the Penguins and Matt Murray gave up six goals on 32 shots to get the loss.
The balanced New Jersey offense saw Travis Zajac, Damon Severson, Brian Boyle, Blake Coleman, Kyle Palmieri and Pavel Zacha. Zajac also posted three helpers and Keith Kinkaid picked up the win for the Devils with three goals allowed on 40 shots.
The New York Rangers need a lot of points to put themselves in a position to make a run at the postseason. New York came up empty handed Tuesday in a 1-0 loss to visiting Philadelphia. Despite no support Rangers goalie Alexandar Georgiev played well with an 18 save performance.
The suddenly hot Flyers have won five straight and six of seven overall. Oskar Lindholm gave Philadelphia the only goal they would need at 1:40 of the first period. Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier supplied assists and Anthony Stolarz picked up the win for Philadelphia with 38 stops.
Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and over is 5-1 in Rangers last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 13-3-1 in Rangers last 17 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 6-0 in Devils last 6 games playing on 2 days rest and under is 4-0 in Devils last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and Devils are 1-7 in their last 8 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game. Over is 6-0-2 in the last 8 meetings in New Jersey and Rangers are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in New Jersey and over is 5-1-3 in the last 9 meetings.
My initial thoughts were the Devils but the juice is far too high. I’d do something on the over or do nothing…
