The Senators head into New Jersey on Thursday night looking to claim their third win in a row while the Devils are after an identical fate after winning back to back as well.
The Ottawa Senators take on the Devils looking make up some ground in the Atlantic division but will have to deal with a highly defensive group that plays well in front of goaltender Corey Schneider who collectively are having another strong campaign. Ottawa is having a bit of an off year based on preseason projections but they are still very much in the race in the Atlantic division as they are just four points out of the playoffs and have been known to go on late season runs to get in. Ottawa is 11-12-2 on the road this season and will go with Craig Anderson in the crease while the Devils will turn to Schneider and sport a 10-10-3 record at home.
The Devils have been one of the league’s bigger surprises this season as they have gone from a league doormat to a group expected to make some noise down the stretch and they have played some very strong team defense this season. New Jersey still has issues scoring and that will likely continue unless they can add a piece at the deadline but in the Metro division they are as good a shot as any to get in behind the Capitals, Rangers, and Islanders. However, to me the Sens are the better of the two teams and while New Jersey has the edge in the crease I like Ottawa to get it done on the road.
