The Pittsburgh Penguins continue their push at top spot in the Eastern Conference as they take to the road to battle the New Jersey Devils.
The Penguins start their post-Christmas stretch on the road against the Devils as they continue their stretch of being a heavy favourite as they have been ripping teams up on the constant and look as dangerous as ever as a Cup favourite. The Pens are 6-2 in their last eight games following a victory and with the Devils in the midst of an ugly stretch it makes sense to see the Penguins as big time favourites, even on the road where they are here. Matt Murray has run away with the starter’s job and should get the nod here against Corey Schneider who is a very good goaltender and always has his team competing, but hasn’t been able to get the wins this season despite playing considerably well.
The Devils meanwhile have been woeful in the last few weeks as they are 1-8 in their last nine games overall and continue to struggle in the offensive zone despite making a move to acquire Taylor Hall from the Oilers. New Jersey is still a decent team in the offensive zone but they have managed to go 10-4 in their last 14 home games and are 5-2 in their last seven games on a Tuesday and with some days off for the holidays they should be well rested and in a decent position to do battle with one of the league’s most potent offenses.
The Pens are 52-23 in their last 75 overall and 26-9 in their last 35 against the Metro while the Devils are 1-7 in their last eight against the East and 1-4 in their last five against the Metro. The Pens have been tough to beat all season and while the Devils should keep them at bay for a while the Penguins get it done in the end.
