The Devils look for their first win of the season on Friday night when they welcome the unbeaten Sharks to the Prudential Center.
The San Jose Sharks are off to another fast start, much like they did a season ago, and as one of the streakiest teams in the league in either direction it is probably a safe bet to continunie riding San Jose until they take their first loss. The Sharks are in a transition phase as they are coming off a season in which they missed the playoffs and are in the midst of an overhaul as this is likely the final season we see Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau as the focal points of the team and if San Jose struggles they could be gone by the trade deadline. The Sharks though do have a nice core of young talent that will take over as Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski wait in the wings and if everyone continues to fire on all cylinders and Martin Jones continues to prove he belongs as a number one goaltender the Sharks will be tough to beat.
The Devils meanwhile are a mess and don't have a ton to look forward to this season aside from another wasted season from one of the league's better goaltenders in Corey Schneider. New Jersey failed to make the playoffs last season and had very little success scoring at a consistent base yet Schneider put up some pretty remarkable numbers and kept them in games but unfortunately it wasn't nearly enough and I feel like we are in for something similar this season. New Jersey should be in the running in the Auston Matthews sweepstakes and while they will certainly win more than their fair share this season I don't see this being the spot they do it.
