The Tampa Bay Lightning and the New Jersey Devils meet in NHL action from the Prudential Center on Monday night.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will be looking to build on back-to-back wins following a 5-4 overtime win over the Florida Panthers in their last outing. Tampa Bay went from a scoreless game at the halfway point of the opening period to 2-0 down in a span of :11 before Alex Killorn would get a goal back for the Lightning just :44 after that. Florida scored a pair of goals to take a 4-1 lead before Mathieu Joseph and Nikita Kucherov cut the deficit to 4-3 after the 2nd period and Cedric Paquette would tie the game midway through the 3rd period. The game would go to overtime where Brayden Point would get the extra point for the Lightning with a goal at 3:12 of OT. Louis Domingue got the win to improve to 10-4-0 this season after stopping 23 of 27 shots faced in the winning effort.
The New Jersey Devils will look to snap a 5-game losing streak after a 4-3 overtime loss to Winnipeg in their last outing. Marcus Johansson gave the Devils a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play before Winnipeg tied the game at the end of the 2nd frame. Winnipeg pushed 3-1 ahead but the Devils would force OT thanks to goals from Jesper Bratt and Taylor Hall. We almost had a shootout but Winnipeg would score with just :17 to go, leaving the Devils with just a single point to show for their hard work. Keith Kinkaid took the loss, falling to 9-6-5 this season after allowing 4 goals on 38 shots in the losing effort.
Tampa Bay is 8-3 in their last 11 road games and 38-14 in their last 52 games against the Eastern Conference while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games overall. New Jersey is 5-16 in their last 21 games overall and 1-7 in their last 8 games against the Atlantic Division while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Tampa Bay have had their issues on the road against the Devils, losing 4 of the last 5 meetings in New Jersey and the home team has won 20 of the last 26 meetings. However, the Lightning are the better and the more consistent team here, while the only thing that New Jersey has done consistently lately is lose hockey games. I’ll lay the juice with the Lightning in this spot.
