The New Jersey Devils look to stay undefeated as they welcome the high scoring Washington Capitals to the Prudential Center on Friday night.
The Capitals look to shake off a home loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in their last outing as they take to the road for a Friday night show down with the undefeated New Jersey Devils who are coming off an impressive road win over the heavily favoured Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. The Caps have been on a tear in the offensive zone to start the season and Alex Ovechkin has led the way as he has done for so many years and he and the rest of the Capitals offense will need to be on full display here as the Devils have ridden the play of Corey Schneider who is quietly one of the league’s best goaltenders and never seems to get the appreciation he deserves based on the results of the teams playing in front of him.
The Devils come into this one as a home dog as the Caps are pretty substantial road favourites and while they have been great to start the season they don’t have the track record that a team like Washington has and their past couple of seasons haven’t been anything to write home about. In fact, the Devils landed the top pick in the NHL draft and selected Nico Hischier to bolster their offense and if he and Taylor Hall can get on the same page this group could be special in a few years time but at the moment they look like a group that is overachieving and riding the play of a very good goaltender.
The Caps are 11-4 in their last 15 road games and 44-21 in their last 65 overall while the Devils are 1-5 in their last six against the Metro and 7-19 in their last 26 home games. The Devils winning ways has to come to an end soon but I don’t like the price on Washington here so the best bet is on the under as this one should stay well clear of the total.
