The Islanders look to snap out of a three game losing skid as they host the Anaheim Ducks in Brooklyn on Monday night.
The Anaheim Ducks will look to win their second game in as many tries as they travel from New Jersey to New York to take on the Islanders and climb out of the Western Conference basement in the process as they currently occupy the cellar with 29 points. The Ducks are coming off a victory against the Devils on Saturday night and while they didn't look overly impressive in the offensive zone as per usual they did enough in their own end to preserve the win and will have to implement a similar strategy in this one. The Ducks have been among the league's biggest disappointments this season and while there is still plenty of time left to turn it around, especially in the Pacific division, they need to start rifling off wins in a hurry. Frederik Andersen is expected to get the start as he will go up against Jaroslav Halak.
The Islanders meanwhile have hit a rough patch as they have dropped three games in a row but return home in a spot here against the worst offense in the league so they should feel comfortable in getting back in the win column. The Isles sit in third place in the Metro division and trail the top seeded Capitals by nine points but they remain a threat to win the Eastern Conference and to me they look like a team that is going to be heavily active at the trade deadline and could very well bring in a piece or two that could push them into elite contenders. New York has been good at home while the Ducks have been dreadful on the road and at a nice price I think the Isles are the play.
