The Line: New York Islanders / Buffalo Sabres --- Over/Under:
The winless Sabres head into Long Island looking to upend the surprising Islanders who have lost their last two contests.
There may not be any team more disappointing in the NHL over the past few seasons than the Buffalo Sabres and after last year’s disaster it looks like more of the same this year. Buffalo is the only winless team in the NHL and has just a single point through seven games so far securing the basement of the league standings for the time being. Buffalo has been abysmal in the offensive zone scoring just seven goals in seven games and is in large part the main reason why they have yet secure a victory despite some very solid defending and net minding. Ryan Miller has been spectacular in the Sabres’ crease but he hasn’t been rewarded with any victories yet and with Evgeni Nabokov and the Isles on tap here it could be another stretch before Miller and the Sabres get in the win column.
The Islanders started off the season with two very convincing victories as they look to replicate last year’s success but since they have dropped back to back contests leaving them at five points on the season through five contests. The Islanders return home here to face a frustrated and desperate Sabres team who was unable to get a victory at home against the Wild but Buffalo will look to take advantage of an Islanders team who is more offensive oriented than the Wild and perhaps exploit the holes on the New York back end. Nabokov continues to be a difference maker for the Isles and with this being his fifth start of the year he will look to secure his third win and send the Sabres away winless. This should be a very tight contest despite the disparity in records but Buffalo is in full desperation mode right now. While the Isles are the better team I like the value with the Sabres as they’re going to win at some point and I can see this being the spot they do so.
