NHL action comes to the Barclays Center where the New York Islanders host the Buffalo Sabres.
The much needed hot streak that the Buffalo Sabres have to have to keep their season alive hasn’t come yet and the clock is ticking. Buffalo has dropped four of five following a 4-2 loss at the Carolina Panthers on Saturday where the offense struggled. The Sabres saw second period goals from Nathan Beaulieu and Zemgus Girgensons with Jack Eichel adding a pair of helpers.
The suddenly surging Hurricanes received a pair of goals off the stick of Justin Faulk with Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho also finding the scoring column. Teuvo Teravainen gave Carolina three assists to make a winner of Cam Ward and his 20 stops while Chad Johnson absorbed the loss for Buffalo with 34 stops.
The New York Islanders have been very good in spurts or very bad in spurts and have been inconsistent which has to change. New York has won three of their last ten after routing the visiting Winnipeg Jets 5-2 on Saturday behind complete performances at both ends of the ice. Tucker Poolman and Adam Lowry scored for the Jets in the first and third.
The Islanders saw Mathew Barzal post his career hat trick with Anders Lee and Anthony Beauviller also finding the back of the net. Jordan Eberle added three assists and New York got 38 stops from Jaroslav Halak. Steve Mason took the loss for Winnipeg with all five goals allowed on 29 shots.
Under is 5-0 in Sabres last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and under is 9-2-1 in Sabres last 12 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Sabres are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game. Islanders are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and over is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and Islanders are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Islanders are sometimes difficult to predict but for now I’m looking at the over…
