NYI -105, O/U 6

The Colorado Avalanche head to Uniondale, NY on Monday for a game against the New York Islanders in a matchup of teams from the Eastern and Western Conference.  The Avs enter Monday’s game coming off of a win by the score of 5-2 against the New Jersey Devils.  Colorado received goals from Ian Cole and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to along a long with 3 goals from Mikko Rantanen on their way to the win against the Devils. Colorado goalie Philipp Grubauer got the start in net and recorded the win as he made 28 saves on 30 New Jersey shots on the night.

With the win against New Jersey, Colorado is now 25-13-4 and is in 2nd place in the Central Division.  Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avs in points with 64, in goals with 25 and in assists with 39.  MacKinnon is clearly Colorado’s most dangerous player and is someone that opposing teams must be aware of at all times.  Colorado goalie Pavel Francouz is 11-3-1 with a goals against average of 2.41.  Goalie Philipp Grubauer is 12-9-3 with a goals against average of 2.87. Colorado comes into Monday’s game with 1 player listed on their injury report as Valeri Nichushkin is listed as out.

The New York Islanders welcome the Colorado Avalanche to town after losing their last game to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the score of 3-0.  The Islanders put a total of 33 shots on net but were never able to get one past Toronto goalie Michael Hutchinson.  Islander goalie Semyon Varlamov took the loss in net as he allowed 2 goals on 22 Toronto shots in the game.

The New York Islanders are 25-12-3 on the season and are currently in 3rd in the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders points, assists and goals leader is Mathew Barzal who has recorded 34 points this season as well as 16 goals and 18 assists.  Semyon Varlamov is currently 14-5-3 with 1 shutout to go along with a goals against average of 2.40.  Thomas Greiss is 11-7-0 with a 2.58 goals against average.  The Islanders enter Monday’s game with the Avalanche with 2 players on their injury report as Adam Pelech is on injured reserve while Thomas Hickey is listed as out.

The Colorado Avalanche have sored 3.71 goals per game this season while allowing 2.93 goals per game.  The New York Islanders have scored 2.80 goals per game on the year while allowing 2.60 goals per game.  Both teams are 2-3 in their last 5 games, but the Avs have won 2 games in a row while the Islanders have lost 2 in a row.  The total has gone over in 6 of Colorado's last 7 games. The total has gone under in 13 of the Islanders last 20 games. The total has gone over in 4 of New York’s last 5 games against Colorado.  Colorado is 7-2 in their last 9 games on the road.  New York is 1-4 in their last 5 games at home.  With Colorado playing so well on the road recently and New York playing poorly at home, I am going with the Avalanche in this one.  Colorado wins 4-2.
