The Islanders look to shake off a two game losing streak and regain their place in second in the Metro as they take on the Blue Jackets in Brooklyn.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are in a rut in the basement of the Eastern Conference and while they were the first team to add a piece to their future by acquiring Seth Jones from the Predators I don’t see them stopping there. Columbus is in a tough spot as they were expected to do some damage in the Eastern Conference this season but they have greatly underachieved and will likely be sellers at the trade deadline. The Jackets are 4-5-1 in their last 10 contests and are 8-15 on the road this season which doesn’t bode well considering they’re taking on an Islanders side looking to rebound after back to back losses and have more than half of their victories this season at home.
The Isles looked poised to run away with the second seed in the Metro a couple of weeks ago thanks to the Rangers’ tail spin but some inconsistent play of their own and a stable effort out of the Devils and Penguins has the middle of the pack a very tight race that should continue moving forward. New York has the talent to be competitive in the Eastern Conference playoffs and while it is safe to say they won’t e winning the division title this season they can still earn home ice advantage in the first round by finishing the year with some conviction. The first step to that starts tonight as they should have no difficulty here with a Jackets side that has been awful this year.
