New York Islanders -114 / Columbus Blue Jackets +103
The Columbus Blue Jackets and the New York Islanders meet in NHL action from the Nassau Coliseum on Monday night.
The Columbus Blue Jackets come into this game looking to build on a 4-1 win over Pittsburgh in their last outing. Boone Jenner opened the scoring for Columbus with the lone goal of the 1st period just 2:31 into the game. Columbus carries the lead into the 2nd where Cam Atkinson doubled the lead 2:17 into the 2nd period. Pittsburgh pulled a goal back, giving us a 2-1 game after 40 minutes of play. The score held through most of the 3rd before Oliver Bjorkstrand restored the two-goal lead with just over three minutes to go and Cam Atkinson added a 4th on an empty net for his 2nd goal of the game. Sergei Bobrovsky got the win to improve to 29-21-1 after stopping 28 of 29 shots faced in the winning effort.
The New York Islanders will look to bounce back after suffering a 5-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in their last outing. Scott Mayfield opened the scoring for the Isles, but the Flyers would respond late in the period to carry a 2-1 advantage into the 2nd period. The Flyers would push that lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes of play before Nick Leddy pulled one back for New York but it was too little too late as Philadelphia secured the win. Thomas Greiss took the loss after allowing all 5 goals on 15 shots faced in the losing effort, falling to 19-11-2 in the process.
Columbus is 2-5 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. New York is 2-5 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record and 14-6 in their last 20 games as a home favorite while the under is 11-4 in their last 15 games against the Eastern Conference. Columbus is 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in New York.
The Islanders lost to Philadelphia last time out, but the fact is that the Islanders have been playing the more consistent hockey recently and while the Blue Jackets are desperate for a win in regards to the playoff hunt, New York just has this magic playing at Nassau Coliseum. Add in the fact that Columbus hasn’t had much success in New York and that we are getting a low price with a solid Islanders team, and I think you have to lay the juice with New York in this spot.
