The Islanders look to claim home ice advantage with a win at home against the Blue jackets on Saturday who continue to play their best hockey of the season.
The Columbus Blue Jackets were a couple of weeks too late to go on the best stretch of the regular season and with their 10th win in 11 tries last night at home against Buffalo they are not only the hottest team in the league but one that likely could be considered a playoff team that won't make it. The Jackets had huge expectations coming into the season but a handful of injuries and incosistent play lists them as big time underachievers and despite their success of late they'll have to wait until next season before they can get their chance at a Stanley Cup. The Jackets will likely stick with Sergei Bobrovsky here to end the season as he will go up against Jaroslav Halak.
The Islanders got a huge win on the road against the Penguins last night and secured their place in the Eastern Conference playoffs and now they have a shot at gaining home ice in the first round against the Washington Capitals. New York has had a strong season but has tapered off in the last month or so and don't look like the same team that had a ton of success in the early going and going up against the Caps in the first round may prove to be a tougher task than they think. The Isles would benefit greatly from home ice and I think they will do enough here to ensure they have done their part and leave it up to the Caps to decide who ends up with the home ice edge.
