The Dallas Stars look to improve their tough start to the season as they take to the road to face off against the New York Islanders on Thursday night.
The Stars have had a disappointing start to the season and need to find their way out of this funk in a hurry if they’re going to jump back into the playoff conversation in the Western Conference and a trip to Brooklyn could be a jumping off point. The Stars have been dreadful on the road as they are 6-21 in their last 27 games away from home and a very disappointing 6-20 in their last 26 games following a win, and coming off a big effort in their last outing the Stars know they need to follow up here and reproduce that energy against the Islanders. Antii Niemi is expected to get the call in the Dallas crease as he will face off against Thomas Greiss who has taken over as New York’s number one option between the pipes.
The Islanders meanwhile have had struggles of their own this season and haven’t made it easy on themselves as they can’t seem to find a way to generate wins even against the league doormats, and if they’re not careful they will soon become the team that every other team circles on the calendar and bank two points. New York has been strong since moving to the Barclay’s Center and are usually a tough out at home as they are 35-17 in their last 52 games in their own building but they know the Stars are just as desperate as they are and with both teams having a ton of fire power in the offensive zone this could be an exciting, high scoring contest.
The Stars are 27-8 in their last 35 Thursday games and 2-6 in their last eight against the Metro while the Islanders are 2-6 in their last eight Thursday games and 1-4 in their last five against the Western Conference. The Islanders seem to find ways to win at home but I don’t like this spot for them as Dallas needs to get it together and fast and side by side the Stars are the better team to me.
