NHL action comes to the Barclays Center where the New York Islanders host the Dallas Stars.
The Dallas Stars will be aiming for consecutive victories after upending the New York Rangers 2-1 in a shootout at Madison Square Garden on Monday. Both sides were at their best defensively with strong goaltending especially for New York with the Stars unloading 45 shots. Julius Honka gave Dallas a 1-0 lead at 6:30 of the second on assists from Esa Lindell and Jamie Benn.
That appeared to be enough until Rick Nash lit the lamp with 3:41 left in regulation for the Rangers with Brady Skjel and Pavel Buchnevich supplying the assists. Alexander Radulov and Mats Zuccarello traded first round goals in the shootout before Jason Spezza won it for the Stars in the third round. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 44 shots for New York in the loss while Kari Lehtonen recorded 24 stops for Dallas.
The New York Islanders will be looking for back to back victories when the Dallas Stars come to town on Wednesday night. New York ended a three game skid with a 3-1 victory versus the Washington Capitals at the Barclays Center on Monday night where the defensive end of the ice put the clamps on the dangerous Caps offense. Dmitry Orlov scored in the third for Washington’s only goal.
The Islanders saw Brock Nelson score in the first before Andrew Ladd and John Tavares lit he lamp just 58 seconds apart for a 3-0 lead only 1:34 in to the second period. Jaroslav Halak was strong between the pipes with 31 saves while Braden Holtby allowed three goals on 12 shots before the Capitals replaced him with Phillip Grubauer who recorded 17 saves.
Stars are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Stars are 0-5 in their last 5 Wednesday games and Stars are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan. Over is 6-1-1 in Islanders last 8 games following a win and over is 10-2-1 in Islanders last 13 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Islanders are 8-2 in their last 10 home games. Stars are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in New York and home team is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and over is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings in New York.
The Islanders have done well on home ice versus the Stars and I lean that way pending goalies…
