The Islanders look to end their ugly four game losing streak when they host the Nashville Predators in New York.
The Predators have lost back to back contests heading into Long Island on Tuesday night after a nice stretch that had them climbing the Western Conference standings but perhaps now they are feeling the loss of Pekka Rinne in goal. Carter Hutton has played well in relief but the Preds just seem like a different team when Rinne is goal and it still could be a while before their star goaltender returns to the crease. The Predators have always struggled offensively and so far this season that hasn’t changed much and against an Islanders team who is in a bit of desperation mode here as losers of four straight you can be sure they will want to keep the Preds’ offense quiet once again.
The Islanders were projected to be a middle of the pack contender in the Eastern Conference this season after making the playoffs last year but their four game slide has them three games under the .500 mark and going back to the drawing board. New York has suffered a set back in the crease of their own as Evgeni Nabokov will once again be sidelined in this one but Kevin Poulin despite his less than impressive record has actually played quite well. Both of these teams are struggling at the moment and while it is a battle of the backups they have actually played just as well as their respective starter’s and I actually like this matchup to be quite competitive. Nonetheless, I am siding with the home team here as I think they finally get off the losing train and take advantage of more offensive firepower en route to a much needed win.
