The New Jersey Devils collide with the New York Islanders in Metropolitan NHL action Saturday.
The New Jersey Devils began the season well but have been in a miserable slide that has produced losses in five of six after a 4-3 defeat at Detroit on Thursday. Blake Coleman, Sami Vatanen and Marcus Johansson lit the lamp for New Jersey with Travis Zajac logging two assists while Cory Schneider gave up three goals on 30 shots.
The balanced Red Wings offense saw scoring from Martin Frk, Michael Rasmussen, Justin Abdelkader and Trevor Daley. Dylan Larkin gave Detroit two helpers and Jimmy Howard got the win with 25 stops.
The New York Islanders have been at the top of their game with four straight wins after a 3-2 SO victory versus visiting Pittsburgh for a sweep of their home-and-home series. The Penguins received power play goals from Dominik Simon and Evgeni Malkin with Matt Murray allowing two goals on 26 shots.
Josh Bailey and Anders Lee supplied the Islanders with goals in regulation with Bailey scoring the only goal of the shootout in round three. Thomas Greiss improved to 3-2-0 for New York with a 29 save performance.
Devils are 0-7 in their last 7 road games and over is 7-1 in Devils last 8 vs. Metropolitan and over is 6-1 in Devils last 7 road games. Islanders are 4-0 in their last 4 overall and Islanders are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and Islanders are 7-0 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan. Devils are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in New York and home team is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings and under is 27-10-2 in the last 39 meetings in New York.
New Jersey always looks dangerous to me but in this one give the edge to the Islanders with both teams heading in different directions…
