The Line: New York Islanders -135 / New York Rangers +122 --- Over/Under: 6
NHL action comes to the Barclays Center where the New York Islanders host the New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers have reached the point in the season where points are worth their weight in gold. The Rangers are looking to move up from 8th in the Metropolitan but saw their two game winning streak end in a 3-2 loss at Minnesota with the team receiving PP goals from John Gilmour and Kevin Hayes.
Minnesota scored three times in the opening period on unassisted tallies off the sticks of Eric Staal and Zach Parise with Marcus Foligno also lighting the lamp. Devan Dubnyk recorded 32 saves to get the win for the Wild while Henrik Lundqvist gave up three goals on 29 shots for the Rangers.
The New York Islanders have been fading and their postseason hopes are slipping away as well. The Islanders can’t get both ends of the ice on the same page and the result is three wins in ten contests. New York comes off of a 4-1 loss to Columbus where John Tavares scored a first period power play goal for a 1-0 lead.
The balanced Blue Jackets attack featured five different goal scorers with Oliver Bjorkstrand, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson each lighting the lamp. Zach Werenski added three helpers for Columbus and Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 stops in the win while Jaroslav Halak allowed all four goals on 47 shots.
Over is 4-0 in Rangers last 4 vs. a team with a losing record and over is 8-1 in Rangers last 9 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 5-1 in Rangers last 6 vs. Eastern Conference. Islanders are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and Islanders are 1-6 in their last 7 Thursday games and over is 6-1 in Islanders last 7 following a home loss of 3 or more goals. Rangers are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in New York and Rangers are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings and over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings.
I guess we could say this pick is based on which team has had the most success in this matchup because there is no edge to make a pick otherwise…
