The New York Rangers visit the New York Islanders in an NHL rivalry bout on Thursday.

It’s been a long season for the New York Rangers who haven’t been able to solve their problems at both ends of the ice. The NY Rangers have lost seven of nine after a 5-2 loss at New Jersey where Ryan Spooner and Kevin Hayes scored and Henrik Lundqvist gave up five goals on 44 shots.

Taylor Hall and Will Butcher each scored twice for the Devils who also received scoring from Travis Zajac. Hall also supplied two helpers for New Jersey and Keith Kinkaid recorded 22 stops to pick up the win.

The offensive minded New York Islanders needed to be at their best Tuesday and were as the team outscored Philadelphia 5-4. Nolan Patrick scored twice for the Flyers with Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux also lighting the lamp with Petr Mrazek making 32-37 stops.

John Tavares and Mathew Barzal led the Islanders scoring spree with two tallies each with Anthony Beauvillier also adding a marker. Beauvillier and  Jordan Eberle added two assists each Thomas Greiss gave New York  27 saves.

Over is 9-2-2 in NY Rangers last 13 overall and over is 41-17-11 in NY Rangers last 69 vs. Metropolitan and NY Rangers  are 16-35 in their last 51 road games. NY Islanders are 2-8 in their last 10 home games and over is 16-5 in NY Islanders last 21 Thursday games and NY Islanders are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Metropolitan. NY Rangers are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings and under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in New York.

We could flip a coin here but I’ll side with the team which has enjoyed the most success in this rivalry…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
