The Senators look to stay red hot and keep their playoff hopes intact as they head into New York to face off against the Islanders.
The Senators have been the league's hottest team over the last few weeks sporting an 8-1-1 record in their last 10 contests and are coming off an impressive win over the Montreal Canadiens in which they went into the Bell Centre and left with a 5-2 victory. Ottawa still sits seven points back of the Bruins for the second and final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference but with 16 games left in the regular season and a game in hand on the Bruins, Ottawa could very well make things interesting and a win against the Islanders here would go a long way in helping their cause. Craig Anderson is expected to get the call as he will go up against Jaroslav Halak.
The Islanders head into Friday night's game sitting in second place in the Metro division as they were overthrown by the Rangers for the lead but things are tight and they could be right back atop their perch by weekend's end. New York has been one of the game's biggesty surprises this season as many expected they wold be a playoff team but in contention for the top seed in the Easteren Conference was a pipe dream but the moves they made in the offseason have set them up not only for success this season but moving forward as well. However, this is a classic let down spot here for the Isles who are coming off a tough loss against the Rangers and have a look ahead spot against the Canadiens on Saturday and with Ottawa being a blip on the radar for the Isles and the Sens desperately needing a win I think they get it here at an absolute steal of a price.
