Metropolitan NHL rivals the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders collide Saturday.

Despite a 5-3 loss to visiting Washington the Philadelphia Flyers have won four of six. Philadelphia received scoring from Philippe Myers, Claude Giroux and Scott Laughton. Sean Couturier assisted twice for the Flyers and Brian Elliott allowed four goals on 19 shots before Cam Talbot stopped 15-16 shots in relief.

Washington jumped to a 5-0 lead on goals from Tom Wilson, Brett Connolly, Alex Ovechkin, Andre Burakovsky and Nicklas Backstrom. Dmitry Orlov logged a pair of helpers for the Capitals and Braden Holtby allowed three goals on 30 shots  to pick up the win.

The New York Islanders swept their home-and-home series with Ottawa with a 4-2 road victory on Thursday. Brady Tkachuk and Oscar Lindberg lit the lamp for the Senators. Anders Nilsson was charged with three goals on 30 shots to get the loss for Ottawa.

Valtteri Filppula scored twice for New York in the first period with Anthony Beauvillier and Casey Cizikas lighting the lamp in the third. Nine players registered points for the Islanders and Thomas Greiss stopped 35 shots to get the win.

Flyers are 7-2 in their last 9 road games and Flyers are 16-6 in their last 22 overall and Flyers are 8-18 in their last 26 games playing on 2 days rest.

Islanders are 6-1 in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest and Islanders are 17-8 in their last 25 vs. Metropolitan and Islanders are 25-12 in their last 37 overall.

Flyers are 20-8 in the last 28 meetings in New York and favorite is 47-16 in the last 63 meetings and over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.

I see New York swept the Senators but shots and goals were plentiful. I’d do something on the Flyers with the decent odds…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
