The Philadelphia Flyers head into Brooklyn on Sunday as they finish off the regular season with the Islanders before both teams head to the playoffs.
The Philadelphia scored a massive win on the road against the Penguins last night and have qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs with the second wild card spot and will set up a first round matchup with their division rivals from Washington. The Flyers were on the cusp of making the playoffs for the better part of two months and finally pushed through and capitalized on a stumble from the Boston Bruins and while this game is meaningless in the standings you can bet they would love to head into the playoffs on a winning note. The Flyers are 17-17-6 on the road this season and face a tough task ahead of them taking on an Islanders side that is 25-10-5 at home this season and are getting set for their first round matchup with the Florida Panthers or Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Islanders head into their regular season finale coming off a 4-3 loss but remain in the driver’s seat in terms of dictating their first round matchup as they can finish ahead of the New York Rangers for third in the Metro division with a win here. New York is set to face off against either the Panthers or Penguins and while you never want to throw a game I think it is in the best interest of the Isles as they match up a lot better with the Panthers than the Penguins. New York is very good at home but could be in a tough spot here coming off a sloppy loss to the Sabres and get a Flyers side that will be amped up after their win against the Penguins. This is one I will likely stay away from but I would have to think the Isles will try to get a win to improve their standing and jump ahead of their arch rivals.
