The San Jose Sharks look to shake off a tough loss on the road against the Rangers last night as they face off against the Islanders in Brooklyn on Tuesday.
The Sharks gave up a season high seven goals on Monday night as the Rangers had their way with them and they have no time to rest as they take on the Isles at the Barclay’s Centre on Tuesday and they will be well rested. The Sharks are the reigning Western Conferene champions and had been playing as such in the first two games of the regular season against the Kings and Blue Jackets, but they were ordinary at best last night in the defensive zone and will need to be better in front Aaron Dell who is expected to get the start in place of Martin Jones.
The Islanders meanwhile look to get rolling on home ice as they face a stiff test here but with the roster they have this group is capable of going deep in the Eastern Conference playoffs, and while it is still early in the season they can use a statement win like this one moving forward. New York is led by John Tavares up front and will need a strong season out of Jaroslav Halak who was excellent in the World Cup of Hockey at the end of the summer and if he can stand on his head and steal a handful of games for this Isles group they have a great chance at making some noise.
The Sharks are 4-0 in their last four games in a back to back and 11-3 in their last 14 Tuesday games while the Isles are 1-6 in their last seven overall and 13-3 in their last 16 Tuesday games. San Jose looked bas last night despite playing well in the offensive zone and with Dell starting tonight I don’t like their odds again as I think this Isles side is due for a breakout game.
