The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders meet Sunday in NHL action at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to keep the puck rolling after winning 15 of their last 18 games. The Tampa Bay Lightning are averaging 4.1 goals per game and are scoring on 30.5 percent of their power play opportunities. Brayden Point leads Tampa Bay with 28 goals, Nikita Kucherov has 51 assists and Steven Stamkos has 129 shots on goal. Defensively, the Tampa Bay Lightning are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 83.6 percent of their opponents power plays. Andrei Vasilevskiy has given up 60 goals on 797 shots faced and Louis Domingue has allowed 57 goals on 596 shots. The Tampa Bay Lightning have allowed three or less goals in 12 of their last 18 games.
The New York Islanders look for a statement victory after winning seven of their last nine games. The New York Islanders are averaging three goals per game and are scoring on 16.2 percent of their power play opportunities. Anders Lee leads New York with 16 goals, Mathew Barzal has 28 assists and Josh Bailey has 71 shots on goal. Defensively, the New York Islanders are allowing 2.6 goals per game and are killing 78 percent of their opponents power plays. Robin Lehner has given up 46 goals on 623 shots faced and Thomas Greiss has allowed 57 goals on 665 shots. The New York Islanders have allowed three or less goals in eight of their last nine games.
The Lightning are 11-3 in their last 14 Sunday games, 6-2 in their last 8 games playing on 0 days rest and 41-14 in their last 55 overall. The Islanders are 5-0 in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest, 5-2 in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference and 7-2 in their last 9 overall. The Lightning are 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in New York and 10-1 in the last 11 meetings. The under is 15-6-1 in Islanders last 22 overall. The under is 3-1-1 in Lightning last 5 overall.
The New York Islanders are playing some impressive hockey right now and are worth a strong look at the plus money at home when you consider they'll be up for this game, as it's a measuring stick game for the Islanders. The problem is the Tampa Bay Lightning are winning games at an insane clip and are crushing teams in the process. On the road, at home, on the end of a back to back, it doesn't matter. The Lightning are not a team you should be trying to step in front of right now. To make matters worse, the Lightning have won nine of the last 10 meetings against the Islanders, which includes wins in each of the last three meetings, outscoring New York 17-10 in those games. This is a rather cheap price for Tampa Bay compared to what they've been getting. I can't step in front of the Lightning, even though I did strongly consider the Islanders because of ice home.
