The New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals take the ice in game four on Tuesday night.
The good news for the Washington Capitals is their defense finally found a way to slow down the dangerous offense of the New York Islanders. The bad news is the offense didn’t help out and the result was a 2-1, overtime defeat and a 2-1 series deficit. The Capitals trailed 1-0 until 6:06 remained in in the game when Niklas Backstrom rifled a shot past a shielded Jaroslav Halak. This gave the Caps new life which ended just seconds in to the extra session when the Isles scored. Braden Holtby was in goal after being sick and missing game number, made a hefty 40 stops in the loss even though he was responsible for keeping his team in the game.
The New York Islanders are known for their ability to put the puck in the back of the net although after game three their defense gained some notoriety. The Isles saw their shutout go by the wayside when Washington scored late to force overtime which turned out to be anti climatic when John Tavares knocked in a rebound off a Nick Leddy shot only 15 seconds in to the extra session. The Islanders drew first blood when a shot from the right circle from Lubomir Visnovsky deflected off the leg of a Capitals defender and past Holtby with less then 7 ½ minutes left in the second. Jaroslav Halak picked up the win with a 24 save performance.
The Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 Tuesday games and the over is 5-1 in Capitals last 6 games playing on 1 days rest while Washington are 5-1 in their last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The over is 3-0-1 in Islanders last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and the Islanders are 0-8 in their last 8 games following a win while the over is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
