|Date & Time||Saturday December 23, 2017, 1:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: New York Islanders -120 / Winnipeg Jets +109 --- Over/Under: 5.5
NHL action comes to the Barclays Center where the New York Islander host the Winnipeg Jets.
The Winnipeg Jets are one of the better teams in the game with the ability to score and defend. Winnipeg had their opportunities to extend their winning streak to three games on Thursday but instead fell 2-1 at the Boston Bruins in a shootout where the offense couldn’t get the job done versus Tuukka Rask.
Torey Krug gave the Bruins a 1-0 advantage on an unassisted tally at 8:16 with Winnipeg answering just 57 seconds later on a Patrik Laine marker. Bryan Little scored in the shootout for the Jets with David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy scoring for Boston. Tuukka Rask made 37 stops for the Bruins while Connor Hellebuyck recorded 32 saves.
The New York Islanders have been very entertaining to watch but the losses have been adding up the past week or so. New York has dropped four of five following a 5-4, overtime loss to the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. John Tavars scored twice for the Islanders with Mathew Barzal and Andrew Ladd also scoring. Josh Bailey gave the Isles a pair of assists with Jarolav Halak allowing five goals on 40 shots.
The Ducks offensive fireworks was led by Hampus Lindholm who recorded a hat trick including the winner at 4:03 of the extra session. Ondrej Kase and Rickard Rakell also reached the scoring column while Ryan Getzlaf added three assists to lift Ryan Miller and his 22 saves to the win.
Jets are 1-7 in their last 8 road games and Jets are 1-5 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and over is 9-2 in Jets last 11 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game. Over is 8-0 in Islanders last 8 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 5-0 in Islanders last 5 vs. Western Conference and Islanders are 9-1 in their last 10 Saturday games. Road team is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings and over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and Jets are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
These teams don’t see each other often so the trends don’t really hold a lot of value but I am looking to the over once I see goalies…
