NHL hockey comes to the Barclays Center with the New York Islanders hosting the Winnipeg Jets.
The Nashville Predators are fighting for position for the postseason so they were probably happy to see the struggling Winnipeg Jets come to town. Having said that, the Jets gave the Predators a fight for their lives before the Preds emerged with a 5-4, overtime win on Monday. James Neal scored 2:11 in to OT to secure the victory with Mike Fisher, Filip Forsberg, Austin Watson and Ryan Johansen also lighting the lamp to make Pekka Rinne the winner with his 30 stops. The Jets offense saw Patrik Laine, Dustin Byfuglien, Blake Wheeler and Joel Armia score but Connor Hellebuyck was charged with all five goals on 42 shots. The point hungry Predators have won consecutive games as they jockey for a playoff spot.
The New York Islanders need points every time they take the ice and they did just that Tuesday in a 3-2, overtime victory at the Carolina Hurricanes. John Tavares came through in the clutch with his OT tally just 34 ticks in to the extra session with Jason Chimera and Joshua Ho-Sang scoring in the final minute of the second period. Thomas Greiss recorded 30 saves to pick up the victory and keep the Isles in a tie for the second Wild Card. The Hurricanes attack featured goals from Joakim Nordstrom and Elias Lindholm while Cam Ward recorded 31 stops for Carolina to absorb the loss as the Canes were looking like a spoiler after knocking off New York 8-4 on Monday.
The over is 4-0 in Jets last 4 vs. Metropolitan and the Jets are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest while the Jets are 0-4 in their last 4 overall. The over is 5-0 in Islanders last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and the over is 6-0 in Islanders last 6 home games while the Islanders are 7-0 in their last 7 Thursday games. The Jets are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings and the over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings while the road team is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
The New York Islanders have looked strong in this match up and goals have been scored which has me looking at the over until I see goalies…
