The Line: Los Angeles Kings -170 / New York Rangers +154 --- Over/Under: 5
The Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers will play game five of the Stanley Cup Final in LA on Friday night. The Kings lead the series, 3-1.
The Rangers were finally able to put together a complete performance in a game four victory, winning 2-1 and avoiding getting swept. The Rangers improve to 13-2 in the playoffs when allowing less than three goals. Henrik Lundqvist had his best performance of the series by saving 40 of 41 shots, but he’s still allowed three or more goals in four of his last seven starts. Offensively, the Rangers are 0-7 in the last two games on power play chances. Martin St. Louis scored his second goal in the final and has seven shots on goal in the four games. However, Rick Nash has yet to score in this series. The New York Rangers now go on the road where they are 31-18-3-1 this season.
The Kings got tons of shots on goal but weren’t able to score enough on The King. Although it should be noted that many shots were just inches away from crossing the line. The Kings are now 1-5 in the playoffs when scoring less than three goals. Goalie Johnathan Quick has allowed just eight goals in the first four games and is saving 93.1 percent of his shots in the series, his best percentage of the playoffs so far. Offensively, Dustin Brown scored his second goal of the Final and Justin Williams failed to get a point in his first Final game. The Los Angeles Kings are 30-17-3-2 at home.
The Rangers are 6-2 in their last 8 games playing on 1 days rest and 9-4 in their last 13 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Kings are 56-26 in their last 82 home games and 2-5 in their last 7 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Rangers are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles.
This is strictly a value play, as I know the odds are stacked against the Rangers. However, the Rangers have been the better team for much of these games and Lundqvist is more than capable of stealing another game. The Rangers are also a terrific team on the road. I’ll test my luck and take the Rangers with the added value.
