The Buffalo Sabres travel to the New York Rangers for a Monday night NHL tilt.
The Buffalo Sabres ended a three game skid in a big way with a 9-2 win against visiting Ottawa on Saturday afternoon. Max McCormick and Cody Ceci scored for the Senators but Craig Anderson gave up three goals on ten shots before Mike McKenna gave up six goals on 31 shots in relief.
Jeff Skinner and Jason Pominville led the Sabres offensive explosion with two goals each while Kyle Okposo, Zemgus Girgensons, Conor Sheary, Patrik Berglund and Casey Mittelstadt also reaching the scoring column.
Jack Eichel added three assists and Linus Ullmark picked up the win for Buffalo with 31 stops.
The New York Rangers are trying to escape the Metropolitan basement and are heading in the right direction with consecutive victories following a 3-2 SO win at Anaheim on Thursday. Jakob Silfverberg and Rickard Rakell scored for the Ducks with Cam Fowler logging a pair of assists. John Gibson gave up two goals for Anaheim and saw his record fall to 4-4-3 with 22 saves.
The Rangers received scoring from Brett Howden and Kevin Hayes on the power play in regulation. Mats Zuccarello and Mika Zibanejad tallied in the shootout and Alexander Georgiev recorded 28 stops to get the win for New York.
Over is 4-0-1 in Sabres last 5 road games and over is 3-0-1 in Sabres last 4 games playing on 0 days rest and over is 5-1-1 in Sabres last 7 overall. Rangers are 0-5 in their last 5 Sunday games and Rangers are 0-4 in their last 4 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days and under is 5-1 in Rangers last 6 home games. Under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings and over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings in New York and Sabres are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
The way the Sabres let loose at the offensive end on Saturday has me thinking the scoring carries over and continues…
