The Line: New York Rangers / Carolina Hurricanes --- Over/Under:
The Carolina Hurricanes invade Madison Square Garden to battle the New York Rangers in Friday NHL.
The Carolina Panthers have been in a bit of a funk the past week with losses in three of four with the team not wanting the skid turn in to something bigger. Carolina is aiming to bounce back from a 3-2, shootout loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets where the offense never got going. The Hurricanes never led with Columbus taking a 1-0 lead just 70 seconds in on a Josh Anderson goal. Carolina’s Noah Hanifin tied it a 7:41 where it remained until the 3:47 mark of the second.
The Hurricanes netted the equalizer off the stick Brock McGinn at the midway point of the third period but neither squad for the remainder of the game or in overtime. The shootout saw Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin score to get the two points when Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen were both denied. Scott Darling stopped 36 shots for the Hurricanes while Joonas Korpisalo recorded 29 stops for Columbus.
The New York Rangers are out to start another hot streak when the Carolina Hurricanes visit for the second meeting between the teams in a week. New York saw a four game winning streak come to and in a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the visiting Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. The Rangers offense saw Pavel Buchnevich and Chris Kreider each score twice with JT Miller adding a goal. David Desharnais logged three helpers but Henrik Lundqvist allowed three goals on six shots before Ondrej Pavelec gave up two more on 21 shots.
The Panthers blew all of a three goal lead before a late score saved what could have been a disaster. The balanced Florida attack featured scoring from Jamie McGinn, Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Denis Maigin with 69 seconds left in regulation. Huberdeau also added two assists while James Reimer made 33 stops for the Panthers.
Over is 5-1 in Hurricanes last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 12-3-1 in Hurricanes last 16 vs. a team with a winning record and under is 4-1 in Hurricanes last 5 road games. Over is 6-0 in Rangers last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and over is 5-0 in Rangers last 5 games playing on 2 days rest and Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 games playing on 2 days rest. Over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings and home team is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and Hurricanes are 5-22-1 in the last 28 meetings in New York.
The over and the Rangers have generally been the way to go in this matchup but I need to see goalies first…
