Madison Square Garden and the New York Rangers welcome the Detroit Red Wings to town for an NHL tilt on Friday.
The Detroit Red Wings are looking for that elusive hot streak to begin when the team visits the New York Rangers on Friday. Detroit has dropped consecutive contests following a 6-2 defeat to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. The Red Wings came up short in most areas with the offense coming from Tomas Tater and Niklas Kromwell but Jimmy Howard gave up four goals on 19 shots and was replaced by Petr Mrazek who allowed two goals on nine shots.
Edmonton snapped a three game slide with the win with great defense that had been tagged with 18 goals during the losing streak. The Oilers were the definition of balanced with six different players scoring. Mark Letestu, Patrick Maroon, Jujhar Khaira, Darnell Murse, Jesse Pulujarvi and Drake Caggiula each scored for the Oilers. Connor David added a pair of helpers to make an easy winner of Cam Talbot and his 20 saves.
The New York Rangers are gunning for their third consecutive win when the Detroit Red Wings take the ice at Madison Square Garden on Friday. New York defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 6-1 on Wednesday night behind a huge first period and suffocating defense. The Hurricanes were the polar opposite with Sebastian Aho supplying the lone goal while Scott Darling was charged with all six goals on 27 shots.
The Rangers offensive assault saw Jesper Fast and Chris Kreider each score twice with Mika Zibanejed and Paul Carey also finding the back of the net. Kreider gave New York a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds in to the game as the Rangers scored three in the first and three in the third. Henrik Lundqvist picked up the win with 30 saves.
