The Red Wings look to rebound after last night's tough loss in Ottawa as they continue their road trip to New York to take on the Rangers at MSG.
The Red Wings got off to a nice start in Ottawa last night by scoring the game's first goal but were quickly knocked back as the Sens scored three unaswered and took the final by a 3-1 line sending Detroit to just their third regulation loss of the season. Detroit has played quite well to start the season and have done so very quietly which suits them just fine and although they dropped last night's contests they have looked on the road and that's where they find themselves here against a New York Rangers side looking to match last year's Stanley Cup berth. Jimmy Howard got the start last night so we are to assume that Jonas Gustavsson will get the nod in this one as he will go up against Henrik Lundqvist for New York.
The Rangers went on quite a roll in last year's playoffs and a huge part of that stems from the success Henrik Lundqvist between the pipes as he continues to assert himself as one of the best in the world. New York returns a large chunk of their team's success from a year ago but did lose some key pieces that could prove to be the difference in this year's squad as I think they will be in a tight spot just to make the playoffs. New York is usually a tough out on home ice and Lundqvist is always a strong bet but Gustavsson shouldn't be overlooked in the Detroit crease and I think he is capable of stealing a game for Detroit which is what I see here as they rebound after last night's tough outing.
