The Florida Panthers continue their road trip as they head from Ottawa to the Big Apple to square off against the surging New York Rangers.
The Panthers are going to finish at or near the bottom of the league standings this season as they simply don’t have a talented enough roster to compete with the big dogs of the Eastern Conference and so far this season that premonition has come to fruition. Florida has struggled to a 3-10-4 mark and if not for an equally embarrassing effort from the Sabres so far would be in the league basement. Florida will turn to Tim Thomas in this one who at the moment gives them the best chance to win but with his age and uncertainty to playing beyond this season being in question it leaves the Panthers in a state of turmoil. Florida is coming off a 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators last night and now have to rebound to face a Rangers team who has finally turned the corner.
The Rangers have finally started to play like the team many though they would be at the beginning of the year as they have won 6 of 10 and are finally back to the .500 mark. New York is a very talented club that will only get better once Rick Nash comes back but a slow start that is somewhat justified based on their unreasonable road schedule to start the year but they have since started to calm down. Henrik Lundqvist looks to reassert himself as one of the best in the game and against a Panthers team who is very underwhelming offensive this could be the game to do it. The odds in this one are very chalky but for good reason as I think the Rangers absolutely paste the Panthers here and it’s not even going to be close.
