The New York Rangers welcome the Florida Panthers to town for a Saturday NHL tilt.
The red hot Florida Panthers cooled off for the night in a 7-3 loss at Columbus that ended a five game winning streak. Nick Bjugstad and Aaron Ekblad scored in the first for a 2-0 Florida lead while Keith Yandle added a second period marker. Mike Matheson logged a pair of assists for the Panthers and Roberto Luongo gave up six goals on 36 shots in defeat.
Columbus received scoring from Cam Atkinson, Brandon Dubinsky, Pierre-Luc Duboise,Markus Hannikainen, Anthony Duclair, Josh Anderson and Boone Jenner. Alexander Wennberg assisted twice for the Blue Jackets who saw Joonas Korpisalo stop 40 shots to get the win.
The New York Rangers have been at the top of their game with wins in six of seven before getting outscored by the rival NY Islanders 7-5 on Thursday. Chris Kreider scored twice for the Rangers with Fredrik Claesson, Kevin Hayes and Filip Chytil also supplying markers. Henrik Lundqvist gave up five goals on on 17 shots for the Rangers before Alexandar Georgiev gave up a goal on six shots in relief.
Anthony Beauvillier topped the NYI offensive explosion with a hat trick with Brock Nelson, Anders Lee, Leo Komarov and Hal Clutterback joining the scoring spree. Thamas Greiss picked up the win for the Islanders despite allowing five goals on 41 shots.
