The Florida Panthers continue their road trip after a win against the Ottawa Senators last night as they head into MSG to take on the New York Rangers on Sunday.
The Panthers shook off an ugly loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs mid week and responded with a big time victory on the road against the Senators last night and continue their road swing against the New York Rangers on Sunday. Florida got back to basics against the Senators and had Roberto Luongo back in the crease who plays with so much poise and confidence that resonates with the rest of his team and while they are in a back to back I anticipate he will get the start again here after backup James Reimer was lit up against the Leafs. Florida are pretty heavy underdogs here and rightfully so as they have been inconsistent while the Rangers are 13-5 and 8-2 at home this season.
New York will be out to continue their strong start to the season as they are cutting down opponents on a nightly basis and are looking like a Cup contender in the early going and against the Cats in this one they should be able to take advantage of Florida’s tired legs here. New York has been considered a league power house for the better part of a decade and while they have yet to snap their Stanley Cup drought that dates back to 1994 they are a model franchise and continue to have competitive teams on a yearly basis and this season appears to be no different.
The Panthers are 4-0 in their last four games in the back end of a double header and 2-7 in their last nine road games while the Rangers are 6-1 in their last seven road games and 5-1 in their last six against the Atlantic. The Panthers will be focusing on their defensive play here as most teams do in a back to back and the Rangers have a stingy unit as is which should keep this game under the number.
