The NHL comes to Madison Square Garden when the New York Rangers host the rival New York Islanders,
The New York Islanders are looking for a momentum boost when the team takes the ice at the New York Rangers on Thursday. The Islanders have won just twice in six contests following a 3-2 defeat at the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.
The Isles never got their offense untracked and the special teams struggled as well. Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the first on an Anze Kopitar tally with Josh Bailey getting New York even at 8:56 of the second period. The Kings responded on Jake Muzzin’s power play goal 2 ½ minutes later and increased their advantage on a short handed goal at 5:44 for a 3-1 lead.
The Islanders cut the deficit to 3-2 when Casey Cizikas lit the lamp with over five minutes remaining in regulation but could not find the equalizer. Jaroslav Halak allowed all three goals on 27 shots to get the loss while Darcy Kuemper won his first start of the year with 23 stops.
The New York Rangers look to end their early season struggles when the rival New York Islanders pay a visit on Thursday night. The Rangers have lost four straight after a 5-4, overtime defeat at the hands of the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.
Evgeni Malkin ended the score fest with a goal just 58 seconds in to the extra session and was joined in the scoring column by Carl Hagelin, Phil Kessel, Patric Hornqvist and Sydney Crosby. To make a winner of Matt Murray and his 28 stops.
The Rangers scoring came from JT Miller, Pavel Buchnevich, David Desharnais and Michael Grabner with Henrik Lundqvist stopping 28 shots as the team fell to 1-5-1.
Under is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 road games and under is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 overall and Islanders are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. a team with a losing record. Under is 4-0 in Rangers last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and Rangers are 0-4 in their last 4 overall and Rangers are 1-6 in their last 7 vs. Eastern Conference. Islanders are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and
Islanders are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in New York and over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings.
Neither team is playing well but the Islanders have had success in this matchup and goals have been scored. I’ll lean to the Isles until goalies have been confirmed…
